I mean, it was one of those real movie-moment embraces, you know? Once I woke up, though, I had no clue who he was. Damn it! Oh, well. Maybe he'll show up again tonight and I'll remember this time. LOL

Isn't it weird how you can clearly remember a feeling in a dream and not the actual details?

On the plus side, I can fill in the blank with anyone I want, right? Isn't that completely backwards from the way it's supposed to work?

I was scared to death I'd have a coughing spasm in the middle of court today. That's just what I need... the PRK glare. Eep! Thank God I held it in, and court was relatively short this morning.

I found a paper on the kitchen table tonight where one of the kids has been writing my name in a pretty close approximation to my signature. Should I be worried? LOL

I have to be at a school board meeting at 7-freaking-30 tomorrow morning. They'd better actually do something news-worthy there, or there will be blood. (Can I say that about a meeting in a school? Will I be surrounded by SWAT officers when I pull into the parking lot? Oh, well... fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.)

I thought I had more spurts of randomness in me, but my brain's not functioning tonight. I'll leave you with a pic, which has nothing to do with anything, except that he's pretty.

<IMG style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #20dfdf 3px ridge; Okay, I watched "The Code" tonight with Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas, and I nearly wet my pants.

TMI? I don't care. That scene in the Russian night club... with the tight jeans and the form-fitting shirt and the sexiness oozing from every freaking pore...? *Whew!*

All right, I think I'm better now...

Michael Jackson's death was a definite shocker. I'm still not sure it's entirely hit me yet. I'm glad the media attention he's getting has been predominantly positive. I mean, I know Michael had his issues... God knows, Michael had his issues... but he was also an incredibly talented human being, and I'm glad that hasn't been lost in all the hullabaloo.

Maria was certainly shaken by it. She's always loved Michael Jackson. She has all his CDs and a DVD of most of his music videos. She used to have a wooden cutout of him from about the chest up from the 80s era that she stood up in her bedroom window looking out. That thing freaked me out on a number of occasions. LOL

She and her friends had a little candlelight vigil last night. They tried to do it at the park, but the cops threw them out (not allowed in the park after dark, don'cha know...) so they did it here. My son went out tonight and came home with two dozen yellow roses that he hid behind his back and made a big show of presenting to me in front of the neighbors. He's been wanting me to talk about how awesome he is; maybe he figured I needed some inspiration? Either that or he wants something really, really bad. My money is on the latter.

Maria, on the other hand, is awesome all by herself and doesn't need to bribe me with gifts. (There, Maria, are you happy now?)

The june bugs are out thick tonight. I hate those things. They crunch when you step on them, they fly right in your face, and they have those icky, sticky feet so you can't get them off of you when they do land on you. Ugh.

I thought I broke my camera today. Actually I thought I broke Bruce's camera... his $800 camera that I kept telling him he didn't need, but he bought it anyway so I confiscated it and use it for work every day. Yeah, that one.

I stopped by the park on the way to work and got some pictures of the kids playing at the "Fun in the Sun" thing they have every week. I got done, put the camera back safely in its case, pulled the strap over my arm and headed off to the car.

Okay, I thought I pulled the strap over my arm. Apparently I didn't. When I let go, the thing hit the ground right on the tip of the lens. Ack!

I checked it out in the car and the lens cap was jammed, but I managed to work that free. It looked good enough, no worse for wear, really, so I pointed it out the window and tried to take a picture.

The damned thing wouldn't focus. Double Ack.

When I got into the office, I called our photographer, who happened to have a day off today. She just lives around the corner, so she came in to see if she could figure out what was wrong with it.

We had pretty much decided that it needed shipped off for repair, so I just sat there fiddling with it while we were talking about other stuff. I wasn't even paying attention to what I was doing, and suddenly I hear this big "pop".

I looked at her... she looked at me... then I turned the camera on and gave it a shot. Eureka!

All I can say is, thank God! That's one bill I seriously didn't need, nor did I need to explain what an idiot I am to have dropped the stupid thing to begin with.

It was a good day to be Trish. Those don't come around very often, so I take what I can get.

Let's Get Random

Bruce got drunk and let Heather paint his fingernails blue. It should be interesting when he sobers up in the morning and has to go to work on a construction site with blue nails because we don't have nail polish remover. I'm laughing... I'm pointing, too, you just can't see it.

I think I decided on the name Duarte for my lion. Heather looked up words that mean "protector", and that was on the list. He kinda looks like a Duarte. Now he needs to roar with a sexy Spanish accent. Hell, I should have named him Antonio. LOL

I'm kinda bummed that David Letterman apologized to Sarah Palin twice. The first time -- the half-assed one -- was more than enough, in my opinion. But Dave's a class act and did it properly a second time. God, I hate Sarah Palin. She uses any excuse to twist people's words and make herself out the victim. It's the "lipstick on a pig" thing all over again -- not remotely intended the way she decided to spin it, but she got some good mileage out of it. Gah. I'm SO glad she's still in Alaska and not in D.C. I can't believe *everyone* doesn't see right through her, though. She's so blindingly transparent.

Enough of her. She pisses me off.

<IMG style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #20dfdf 2px solid; I've got to admit, I have a little thing for Brendan Fraser. He's got that big-dorky-kid-in-a-man's-body sexy thing going on. He's not the best actor in the world, and it certainly wasn't the best movie. But he gets me a little tingly, I'm not going to lie.

TMI, I know, but nobody's making you read this. LOL

The Sentinel

I bought myself a lion. She's made a little memorial thing for them on the fridge. It's basically a piece of paper with different colored post-it notes in memory of each one. I hope no more of them die, or we'll need a bigger fridge. I'm sure my lovely niece already knew that, so it couldn't have been much of a shock. LOL (Sorry, Jessie! I'm proud of you!)

Support Your Local Newspaper

All of the employees of all of our company's Ohio newspapers had to take one unpaid furlough day off during the month of May. Now we're told we have to take an unpaid WEEK off during the month of June.

When you're barely above poverty level as it is, that's a tough one to swallow. We get to lose one-quarter of our income next month. But I guess a week is better than forever, so what can you do, right?

But as much as it sucks for individual people, the bigger picture is that the whole newspaper industry is in turmoil right now. The small community newspapers have at least a slight advantage because they don't have to compete with the internet, television and radio for their daily news. We cover things you'd never be able to find anywhere else, and that's valuable to the people in a smaller community.

But what happens if that big picture changes and even the smaller communities lose their newspapers like some of the big cities have been? The nearby "big city" newspapers have no interest in covering our local politics or school board decisions or business items, unless they're outrageously scandalous.

That small town resource would be replaced by what? The internet? Not likely, especially when much of the area doesn't really have reliable internet service available yet and many people don't even own computers.

A community newspaper, for good or for bad, is a valuable resource that shouldn't be taken for granted. I say that not only because I work for one, but because I believe it.

So support your local newspaper, big or small. Buy it, read it, advertise in it. It would be a shame to lose that local community resource.

And Then There Were Seven...

Well, one of the new fishies died this afternoon, and another one doesn't look too healthy. I guess that's what happens with 26¢ fish, eh?

The Pumpkin Show one is still going strong, though. That thing will live forever. LOL

I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow. I've done absolutely nothing all weekend, and my brain is about to implode.

I have absolutely nothing interesting left to say, so I'll leave you with my tiger-girl. Have a great week, everyone!
